"Every Coffee starts with one Bean

Every Passion starts with one drip of Curiosity

Every Story Starts with one Dream."

In 2009 Vava Angwenyi made the singular decision to create real change in the Kenyan Coffee industry. Between the challenges of poverty, corruption and fear, she saw smiles. She saw smallholder coffee farmers  that wanted to change their lives but could not get their voices heard.

Vava Specialty Coffee is  a social enterprise in Nairobi with a subsidiary in the US, that seeks to cause positive social and economic disruption within the coffee industry and create sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers as well as integrate more women and youth within the entire supply chain. Since inception we have worked tirelessly towards creating a strong network as well as relationships connecting like minded partners both businesses and individuals to our business.

BREWING CHANGE

Smallholder coffee farmers in Kenya earn less than 35% of the international market value on their high-quality specialty coffees, earning on average just $250 annually (less than a dollar a day) for the coffee they produce. This is primarily due to lack of market access and limited information regarding the quality of their coffee.

Vava Specialty Coffee’s  Direct and Fair trade model brings specialty grade coffees to roasters, consumers and importers who pay fair, premium prices. By directly linking smallholder coffee farmers to markets that are keen on ethically sourced, traceable coffees, this model provides sustainable livelihoods for these smallholder coffee farmers.

Since 2009, Vava Coffee has worked with 30,000 smallholder farmers, Our aim is to positively impact the lives of 130,000 farmers by 2018.
